چکیده
A SERIES of 500 cases of proptosis included two due to orbital malignant neurilemmoma, which according to Duke-Elder (1952) and Hogan and Zimmerman (1962) is a very rare condition. Case Reports Case 1, a 50-year-old woman (Fig. 1), had a left forward painless proptosis of 7-months' duration. Examination.-The right eye was normal and the visual acuity 6/9. The left eye showed proptosis 23 mm. (right eye 16 mm.), oedema of the lids, and limitation of the ocular movements in all directions. The visual acuity was counting fingers at 10 cm. The left fundus showed optic atrophy. A mass was palpable in the outer lower quadrant of the orbit. Skull x rays showed the left orbital cavity to be wider than the right. ...... . ..... ... . . . . .... .... .... . : . ................ ........... .......... ..... -. _

Malignant solitary fibrous tumour of the orbit.
PURPOSE We aimed to report a case of orbital solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) in a child and to review the relevant literature. METHODS We describe an SFT in a 13-year-old boy with a 1-month history of painless proptosis in the left eye. RESULTS Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a well circumscribed mass filling most of the left intraconal orbit. The lesion was excised and histopathological ...
متن کاملValue of MR imaging in differentiation between solitary fibrous tumor and schwannoma in the orbit.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Orbital SFT is a rare tumor, often misdiagnosed as orbital schwannoma preoperatively but with different prognosis and treatment. Our aim was to evaluate MR imaging features that might distinguish orbital SFT from schwannoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS MR imaging including DCE scanning was performed in 9 patients with SFT and 22 patients with schwannoma in the orbit confirmed...

متن کاملBenign orbital neurilemmoma - an uncommon cause of unilateral proptosis.
The occurrence of neurilemmoma in general is not infrequent, but it is a relatively uncommon orbital neoplasm. Proptosis caused by the tumour may be mistaken for Grave's disease. This report presents two female patients, aged 42 years and 30 years, with progressive unilateral proptosis. The former patient was investigated for Grave's disease prior to discovery of an orbital neurilemmoma mimicki...
